My Current Nomad Beauty Essentials
So by now, you all probably know that I'm a full time nomad. I have no home. I'm living on the road. All by choice. And I've been loving it. I'm the kind of person who loves change and therefore this type of lifestyle fits me well. Right now my life is kind of work hard, play hard style. My photography work seems to come in waves. I was fully booked the last two weeks of January and worked really long days and did a lot of editing. So before gearing up for another round of work starting Feb 18th, I decided to take a little Oregon roadtrip to fill my creative tank with all of the whimsical energy of the pacific northwest. I spent the past ten days driving around the great state of Oregon in an old volvo station wagon visiting friends, casually completing some work projects and allowing myself to be fully inspired. I kid you not, I slept on four different couches and three different beds in one single week. Shoutout to all my lovely friends who welcomed me into their cozy homes. Over the past ten days, I had a lot of time to reflect. To think. To mull over ideas. And I know it's not revolutionary or anything, but I am finally truly learning first hand that the small things in life often do really bring the most joy. Things like golden light peeping through the curtains to wake you up, drink a piping cup of coffee in the morning, sharing meals with friends, listening to a killer playlist and having really, really good smelling hand lotion. Right now, I'm living uber minimialistically. I don't have a lot of stuff. And I really have no space to accumulate very much. However, I wanted to share a few nomading beauty essentials that I'm loving at the moment.
Dr. Bronner's Lavendar Organic Hand & Body Lotion // I love this stuff a lot. I bought it because my friend Mickey had it in her bathroom and I used a little bit and it smelled so good. And then I found myself in whole foods with a million things in my basket. And I was sad to leave a really fun few days at Mickey's homestead so I bought the same lotion she had in her bathroom. Now everytime I use it I am reminded of her and it makes me so happy. TRUE STORY. Additionally, this lotion works really well. My skin has been a bit dry with me moving between climates so much this winter and it soaks in really well.
Dr. Bronner's Lavendar Hand Sanitizer // This. Because GERMS. I am a total germaphobe and I've been using lots of public restrooms while driving all around Oregon. I've also been having lots of side-of-the-road-picnics and I need my hands to be clean at all times. I love this because purelle makes me feel sick and this hand sanitizer smells like lavendar and is really affective without the toxin overload.
Karamameju Calm Balm // I got this in Denmark and I'm kind of addicted to it. I use it on my lips and cuticiles. I don't know if you can get it in the United States but I do really love this brand of lip balm. Maybe I just love it because it's Danish and I'm missing Denmark just a bit.
Luminance Night Time Facial Butter // This stuff is like velvet. From the moment I tried this cream I was sold. Now I'm addicted. My skin has just been tending towards dry this winter so this has been a life saver. I use it day and night. Can't live without.
Simplers Botanicals Essential Oils // I am currently SO obsessed with Ylang Ylang and Palmarosa essential oils, by this brand in particular. I'm not sure why, but energetically I just really jive with this brand. I picked these up at one of my favorite grocery stores in Eugene, Oregon - Capella Market. I am so attracted to these two scents right now and apparently you should pay attention to what essential oils smell good to you because those are the ones your body needs. So I kindly obliged and am using these at all times of the day. I carry them in my little wallet.
Luminance Macha Tea & Tea Tree Acne Serum // Totally and fully obsessed. It's no secret that I struggle with skin blemishes. It's one of the main indicators that I'm not detoxing well. With massive diet changes (HFLC - more on that later,) eating extremely nutrient dense and using Luminance products my skin has improved greatly. But with travel, things can often get thrown off. This acne serum by Luminance is a total gamechanger for me. It does such a great job at keeping my skin clear. I basically can't live without this while traveling.
Shea Butter // Currently addicted to shea butter. No joke. Again, that winter dry skin thing. Shea butter has been a lifesaver. Plus, more than that, I love just taking a second to massage my hands and forearms with shea butter and some ylang ylang essential oil. It's part of my bedtime routine and I adore it.
Tunisian Jasmine Oil // Jasmine oil is my perfume jam at the moment. I'm sure many of you can relate, but I'm uber sensitive to any synthetic scents. Don't even get me started on perfume. Can you say toxin-bomb? I love, love, love these small fragrance oils by Kuumba. I want all of them. But I keep going back to Jasmine. It's such a luxurious scent. And after a few days of couch surfing and short showers, this little fragrance oil is all I need to feel like a goddess again.
So there you have it. Small little things bringing me big joy while I nomad. And they're useful too! Keeping my moisturized and glowing!
